Alberto Maffei Alberti founded Studio Legale Maffei Alberti in 1969.

He has been a member of study commissions for the reform of bankruptcy and insolvency law and special administration proceedings. As a consultant to the government, he inspired the reform of special administration proceedings for large companies (Legislative Decree 347/2003, the so-called Parmalat Law). He has held office as special administrator for the Fochi Group, Sacaim s.p.a. and Palazzo Bianca Cappello s.r.l..

He has provided legal assistance and advice in many special administration procedures.

Since 1985, he has been a full professor of commercial law at the Department of Law of the University of Bologna and previously taught private law and bankruptcy law at the same Department. Before that, he held courses on business law at the University of Modena and commercial law at the University of Ferrara.

In 1978 he founded, together with Piero Schlesinger of the University of Milan and Giorgio Cian of the University of Ferrara, the quarterly magazine “Le Nuove Leggi Civili Commentate“, now in its fortieth year of publication.

He has been a member of the Bologna Bar Association since 1960.

Publications

Alberto Maffei Alberti has published significant national and international works and monographs, which have become a fundamental point of reference in the field of commercial law, particularly in the area of crisis management legislation. In Italy, his most prominent academic studies deal with:

  • Claw-back and bankruptcy claw-back actions;
  • Outstanding contractual relationships in bankruptcy and other insolvency proceedings;
  • Business preservation and creditor protection in crisis situations.
